National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, Alagappanagar, is a government-sponsored public service program aimed at developing the personality of students through community service. Established under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India, NSS encourages students to participate in various social service activities, instilling in them a sense of social responsibility, empathy, and civic consciousness.

Objectives

• To involve youth in nation-building through community service
• To develop leadership qualities and a sense of social commitment among students
• To create awareness about social issues and encourage active participation in solving them
• To bridge the gap between educational institutions and communities through outreach programs

Regular Activities

The NSS unit conducts various regular programs throughout the academic year, including:

• Awareness Campaigns on health, hygiene, environment, and social issues
• Blood Donation Camps in collaboration with local hospitals and organizations
• Clean Campus Initiatives and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities
• Tree Plantation Drives and environmental protection programs
• Observance of National and International Days such as NSS Day, World Environment Day, Constitution Day, etc.

Special Camp Activities

Each year, the NSS unit organizes a 7-Day Special Camp in a nearby adopted village. These camps offer students real-life exposure to rural issues and the chance to contribute meaningfully to society. During the camp, volunteers engage in intensive community service, such as:

• Cleaning and sanitation drives
• Conducting health check-up and medical awareness camps
• Educating the local population on literacy, digital literacy, and social issues
• Promoting government welfare schemes and programs
